The Science of Mindfulness: A Research-Based Path to Well-Being

Dr Ron Siegel, a professor at Harvard and a clinical psychologist, has been a big voice in this space for decades.  In this talk he gives a great introduction to the science behind mindfulness practice and gives lots of reasons why it's a good idea to give it a try.

Intro to Mindfulness series starts next month

noticing transitions

With an "intro to mindfulness" 4-part series starting April 16 I've been asked to write a weekly post for those interested in participating.  Register for the series here.

Why Mindfulness?  7min YouTube video by Jack Kornfield, one of the most prominent mindfulness teachers in America.  His first book, A Path with Heart, tells his own story in a way that inspired many people to pursue their own path.

Mindfulness for Your Health, an NIH News in Health article, very easy read.

And here's a link that's very meaningful to me, but, being a scholarly article, is not an easy read.  Mindfulness Training for People With Dementia and Their Caregivers: Rationale, Current Research, and Future Directions.  I would love to see members of aging-in-place nonprofit villages like LFV & FHNN send this link to everyone on their boards.

Looking forward to seeing you on Zoom in April.  --Andy

Hatred never ends with hatred. Understand how love works.

I look for what Gil Fronsdal has to say whenever something especially tragic happens in the world.  Here he is on Israel and Gaza.  I find it enlivening to hear someone talk about this with humanity, wisdom, & compassion.  I learned in this talk that Gil's father-in-law survived Buchenwald concentration camp as a teenager even though his parents (Gil's wife's grandparents) died there.

Here's what he had to say back in October.

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction." — Martin Luther King, Jr.
